Start A Riot #4 – The Franklys

In episode four of Start A Riot, we chat to all girl garage rock band The Franklys. Hailing from Sweden, America and Milton Keynes, this international outfit have been impressing audiences around the world for just over two years, and their punky sound has drawn attention from Clash Magazine and NME.

We talked at length about not only their music, but about how women in alternative music are often ignored or pushed to the sidelines, as has been apparent in the recent Leeds and Reading Festival announcements, despite a long history of females in punk from the early days (The Slits, Blondie, Siouxsie Sioux) to the Riot Grrrl movement in the 90s (Sleater-Kinney, Le Tigre, Bikini Kill) and all the way to present day (Warpaint, Deap Vally, Paramore and many many more).
